It’s Official: YRMC’s Breast Care Center Earns Additional Accreditation by the American College of Radiology

The word “excellence” has long been associated with the Breast Care Center at Dignity Health, Yavapai Regional Medical Center (YRMC). But now it’s official: YRMC’s Breast Care Center was recently designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE) by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The three-year accreditation recognizes that YRMC’s Breast Care Center excels in all aspects of breast imaging, including these breast imaging modalities:

  • Breast MRI
  • Breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy)
  • Mammography
  • Stereotactic breast biopsy

ACR accreditation is voluntary and an addition to required imaging licenses, surveys, and accreditations. The BICOE application process includes comprehensive evaluations conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists in each of the four breast imaging modalities.

“Our team decided to pursue BICOE accreditation for our patients and community,” said Kathi Hoffer, Imaging Manager, Breast Care Center at Dignity Health, YRMC. “We were confident that the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation would validate the level of care we provide.”

BICOE accreditation means YRMC’s Breast Care Center has achieved the highest practice standards in:

  • Image excellence
  • Staff qualifications
  • Facility equipment
  • Quality control standards
  • Quality assurance procedures

The ACR is a national professional organization founded in 1923 to advance the practice and science of radiological care. Today, the organization’s more than 41,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists work together in support of that mission.
