How Vicki Burton and the Shadows Foundation give back to Northern Arizona
Prescott Woman Magazine chatted with Vicki Burton, Founder and Director of The Shadows Foundation, to learn what she enjoys about being part of the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce and how it benefits her business.
PWM: How long have you been a member of the Prescott Valley Chamber, and what do you enjoy most about being part of this organization?
Vicki: I’ve been a member for over a year and love how they support and help Shadows, as a nonprofit, promote our foundation and annual signature event in Prescott.
PWM: In your experience, how does the PV Chamber differ from other local groups?
Vicki: They support members like me who live outside the area. Our annual signature event is in Prescott, but our Flagstaff-based organization serves all of northern Arizona.
PWM: Can you share what led you to the Prescott Valley area and your current position?
Vicki: I came to Prescott Valley to grow our organization, build awareness, and promote our Music Festival. I’m the Shadows Foundation founder and director.
PWM: Do you have any kids, significant others, fur babies, or family members in the area?
Vicki: Yes, my In-laws!
PWM: Are you involved in the community? If so, what initiatives or projects are you currently involved in that aim to uplift our community?
Vicki: Not at this moment, however our foundation supports patients from the area.
PWM: How do you balance your role in the Chamber with other professional and personal commitments?
Vicki: Right now, I co-host KAFF COUNTRY Mornings with Vicki and Mike while running my foundation. I’m also a Chamber member and attend social gatherings whenever possible.
PWM: What inspired you to start your business, and how has that inspiration evolved?
Vicki: I started Shadows Foundation 12 years ago to support those battling life-threatening illnesses. Since then, we’ve expanded to help Northern Arizona First Responders with heart screenings and assist the homeless through our Better Bucks Voucher Program.
PWM: What do you wish you knew when you started your business that could have made your journey easier?
Vicki: Grant writing. Being a nonprofit, events just do not support your cause when you are up against so many things that can hinder your revenue.
PWM: Is there anything else you’d like to share that people might not know about you or your work?
Vicki: The Shadows Foundation’s mission is to provide essential support services and financial assistance to individuals and families in Flagstaff and surrounding Arizona communities affected by illness.
