THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF CENTRAL ARIZONA: ON A MISSION TO HELP DEVELOP YOUTH AND EMPOWER FAMILIES

By Clarissa Robertson

Our local Boys & Girls Clubs serve approximately 600 kids annually, with an average of 200 visits daily. The Clubs are currently serving an average of 30% more children than just a few years ago thanks to the support of this incredible community.

As programs are designed to drive positive outcomes and reinforce necessary life skills, within the Clubs’ walls, members find a place to learn about themselves and build a strong foundation for a healthy, productive life. Studies conducted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America found that every dollar invested in the Clubs provides a $10 return to the local community.

Locally, Clubs not only ensure that development opportunities are accessible for every young person who walks through the blue doors, but also empowers families by putting economic success within reach. Our Boys & Girls Clubs national programs and locally-based initiatives offer experiences most members would not otherwise have, along with the peace of mind for parents or guardians that their kids are safe and in a caring environment while they work to provide for their families.

Says Liz, parent of two Club members ages 8 and 11, “Without the help of the Club I would not be able to go to my job at the City of Prescott. I have seen my kids be able to participate in physical activity and art. Thank you BGCCAZ.”

As one of the few after-school and summer programs in the area, the Clubs play an important role and the demand for its services has increased over time. That’s why expanding operations to keep up with the growing community’s needs is a primary focus.

As a result of a multi-year campaign to expand and renovate its facilities, the Clubs added a playground to the current Prescott building, and started remodeling the restrooms and multipurpose room. In Prescott Valley, the Clubs added a full-sized gymnasium, allowing for new and exciting programming opportunities (including the newly launched basketball program and various health and fitness activities). While our community has seen remarkable progress toward expanding the Clubs’ outreach to serve more children, there is more to accomplish in the near future.

Every day, Clubs programs reach hundreds of young people ages 6-18 across the quad-cities area and make a difference in our local communities. They represent tremendous value for youth, families, and the community as a whole. None of this would be possible without the support of extraordinary partners. The Clubs are especially grateful for the support of each one of those who selflessly offer their time and expertise to sustain its mission, and for those who generously donate to support its programs and expansion projects. By supporting the Clubs, you are making a positive impact in many families’ lives, and an investment in the future of this community – our youth!
