Dr. Karissa Walton on helping people live their best lives while also helping bring the community together in meaningful ways
Prescott Woman Magazine chatted with Dr. Karissa Walton, with Arizona Healthcare Freedom, to find out what makes her enjoy being a part of the Prescott Downtown Partnership and how it benefits her business.
PWM: How long have you been a member of the Prescott Downtown Partnership, and what do you enjoy most about being part of this organization? In your experience, how does the PDP differ from other local groups?
Karissa: I joined Prescott Downtown Partnership after seeing their amazing volunteer work. They support local businesses, preserve Prescott’s culture, and create events that bring our community together in meaningful ways.
PWM: Can you share what led you to Prescott and your current position in your employment?
Karissa: Prescott is my happy place! I launched Northern Arizona’s first mobile clinic in 2019 to serve homebound patients, which later expanded into my downtown Prescott clinic, Arizona Healthcare Freedom, providing accessible, community-focused healthcare.
PWM: Do you work downtown, and how has the local culture or environment influenced your journey?
Karissa: Yes, my clinic is currently downtown on Granite Street. We’re incredibly grateful for our supportive community. Treating patients like family and receiving referrals helps us provide more people with the healthcare they deserve.
PWM: Are you involved in the community? If so, what initiatives or projects are you currently involved in that aim to uplift our community?
Karissa: Yes, I sponsor PDP’s Summer Concert Series, participate in Chamber events, and support nonprofits like Big Brothers Big Sisters and Boys & Girls Clubs. At Arizona Healthcare Freedom, we also host educational health events for the community.
PWM: How do you balance your role in the PDP with other professional aspirations and personal commitments?
Karissa: I stick to schedules and to-do lists, and with my amazing Practice Manager, Emily, and a strong team, I can stay organized while enjoying personal time, family, friends, and prioritizing my health.
PWM: Is there a common misconception about women in business that you would like to address?
Karissa: As a young female business owner, I’ve faced assumptions that someone else runs my clinic or that I’m too young to be a doctor. I respond professionally, educate others, and earn respect through my work and dedication.
PWM: What advice would you give to other women seeking involvement in community organizations?
Karissa: Focus on one organization, respect your limits, and create lasting impact through balanced, intentional community involvement.
PWM: Is there anything else you’d like to share that people might not know about you or your work?
Karissa: At Arizona Healthcare Freedom, we truly care about helping you live your healthiest life. We’re accepting new patients and offer flexible payment options, including HSAs, healthshares, superbills, and affordable care packages to fit your needs and budget.
