Grab your walking shoes—and your four-legged hiking buddy, if you have one—for a day on the Peavine Trail supporting animals and the people who love them.

There may be no better combination than a beautiful fall day in Prescott, a walk along the Peavine Trail, and a few wagging tails.

United Animal Friends (UAF) is bringing its Hike for Hounds Fall Festival back on Saturday, November 7, 2026, inviting animal lovers to enjoy a morning outdoors followed by an afternoon of food, activities, shopping, and fun at the UAF Rescue Ranch.

And you don’t need a dog to join the fun! Participants are welcome to walk with or without a canine companion. Whether you bring your friendly pup, walk with friends or family, or simply come out to support a great cause, everyone is invited to participate.

The annual event is more than a great excuse to get outside. It’s also an opportunity to support an organization that has been helping animals—and the people who care for them—throughout Yavapai County for more than two decades.

Hike, Lunch and Plenty of Tail-Wagging Fun

Hike for Hounds begins at the UAF Rescue Ranch, 2600 Heckethorn Road in Prescott, located next to the Peavine Trail.

Registration and check-in run from 9 to 10:30 a.m., and participants can hike as much or as little of the Peavine Trail as they choose. That makes the event approachable for everyone, whether you’re ready to put in some miles or simply want to enjoy a leisurely walk.

Dogs are welcome but definitely not required. Walkers without dogs are encouraged to participate, too, making Hike for Hounds an event for anyone who loves animals and wants to support UAF’s mission.

After the hike, participants return to the Rescue Ranch, where the festivities continue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The $25 entry fee includes the Peavine Trail hike and a grilled picnic lunch, plus access to vendors and exhibitors, dog activities, face painting, raffles, music, games, and more.

Friendly dogs are welcome, making this a true community event for both two-legged and four-legged participants.

Helping Animals—and the People Who Love Them

Hike for Hounds supports the work of United Animal Friends, a volunteer-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2003.

UAF’s mission extends well beyond animal rescue. The organization provides programs and services designed to address the challenges that can make it difficult for people to care for their pets.

UAF rescues, fosters, spays and neuters, and finds homes for dogs and cats, but it also works to keep animals healthy and with the families who already love them.

Programs include the Community Pet Food Bank, which distributes more than 50,000 pounds of pet food each year to pets in low-income households; low-cost spay and neuter assistance; the Snip n’ Go Clinic; an Emergency Medical Program for pet owners who cannot afford emergency veterinary care; a Courtesy Listing Program to help people responsibly rehome dogs and cats; and other community resources.

It’s a model that recognizes an important part of animal welfare: sometimes helping an animal means helping the person standing beside them.

A Community Effort

Volunteers are at the heart of UAF’s work. From fostering animals and assisting with adoptions to transporting pets, distributing food, fundraising, and helping with events like Hike for Hounds, community involvement allows the organization to continue expanding its impact.

Hike for Hounds brings many of those pieces together in one place.

It’s a chance to meet other animal lovers, learn about local resources, support vendors and exhibitors, spend time outdoors, and discover more about the work happening every day to improve the lives of animals across Yavapai County.

And, of course, if you do bring your dog, it’s a chance to make their Saturday considerably more exciting.
