Young Professionals Shine in Prescott

Janae Ottis has a passion for helping and caring for people in whatever they are going through. Born and raised in Turlock, California where cows moo and almond trees blossom, she graduated from the University of California, Merced, with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Freshly out of college, Janae worked as a Youth Advisor for the Summer Youth Employment Program, and this experience further instilled a desire to help counsel youth in their education and career goals.

In January, after Janae and her husband moved to beautiful Prescott, she began working as a Program Specialist with Northern Arizona Council of Governments-Economic Workforce Development. Janae is able to put her passion to use and help guide individuals towards a sustainable career path. She says the best part of working as a Program Specialist is being part of someone’s growth and success in a career they are passionate about. Most of all, Janae is happy to be a listening ear for her clients and to be part of their support system.

Being new to the area, Janae saw Prescott Area Young Professionals as an opportunity to meet new people and learn more about the community and its businesses. Becoming a member of PAYP has helped familiarize Janae with the needs of the community. Also, she enjoys sharing NACOG-EWD’s work (to learn more, visit

Janae’s current goals are to continue learning more about her new community, and the needs within, to help better serve the people in the Prescott area. She understands that many people have lost their jobs and are facing an uncertain future. She wants to encourage everyone to use the challenge of change as an opportunity for transformation. One of her favorite sayings is, “Every accomplishment starts with a decision to try.”

She encourages everyone to try and see the results.

Janae always had a desire to further her education. She recently became a graduate student at Northcentral University, and is working towards her Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.
