From May 13 through June 23, 2026, ‘Tis Art Center & Gallery invites the community to experience Journeys in Spirit 2026: Traditional and Contemporary Native Art—an annual exhibition that continues to deepen its impact through storytelling, cultural connection, and artistic excellence.
Presented in collaboration with Museum of Indigenous People, this powerful exhibition brings together a diverse group of Native American artists whose work reflects both ancestral traditions and contemporary expression. Representing tribal affiliations including Hopi, Cherokee, Diné, Yaqui, Choctaw, Muskogee Creek, and Yavapai, the artists featured in this show offer more than visual beauty—they share living narratives rooted in identity, heritage, and resilience.
Visitors will encounter an expansive collection of mediums, from intricate beadwork and handwoven basketry to bold paintings, detailed ceramics, and striking photography. Each piece carries a story—some passed down through generations, others shaped by modern experiences—yet all grounded in a deep connection to culture and community.
What makes Journeys in Spirit especially meaningful is its ability to bridge past and present. Traditional techniques are honored and preserved, while contemporary interpretations invite new perspectives. This blending of forms creates a dynamic and immersive experience that speaks to both longtime collectors and those newly exploring Native art.
Beyond the gallery walls, the exhibition offers opportunities for personal connection. Attendees can meet participating artists during Prescott’s beloved 4th Friday Art Walk, gaining insight into the creative processes and cultural significance behind the work. These moments of interaction transform the experience from viewing art to truly understanding it.
The Artist Reception on May 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. serves as a highlight of the exhibition, welcoming the community to gather, celebrate, and engage directly with the artists and organizers who bring this event to life.
At its core, Journeys in Spirit 2026 is more than an exhibition—it is an invitation. An invitation to listen, to learn, and to appreciate the richness of Native cultures through authentic artistic expression. It also plays a vital role in supporting Native artists economically and creatively, ensuring that these traditions continue to thrive for generations to come.
As Prescott continues to grow as a hub for arts and culture, exhibitions like this remind us of the importance of honoring the voices and stories that have long shaped this region.
