For Murphy, leadership means creating a shared vision, bringing people together around a common purpose, and continually finding ways to do things better. As a Prescott native, her commitment to community has always been central to her work and her belief that strong organizations and empowered people are essential to building healthier communities.
“I’ve always believed that our work should be about more than maintaining the status quo. It’s about bringing people together, challenging ourselves to improve, and making sure the systems and services we provide truly make a difference in people’s lives. That means the clients in which we serve, as well as the staff who are providing those services.”
A Licensed Professional Counselor with a doctorate in psychology focused on Leadership and Organizational Development, Murphy has spent her career developing leaders, strengthening organizations, and helping teams navigate change. Her approach combines an understanding of human behavior in the workplace with a focus on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
A Mission That Reaches Across Arizona
Spectrum Healthcare is a statewide, fully integrated healthcare organization providing primary care, psychiatry, and behavioral health services to children and adults of all ages. By bringing physical and behavioral healthcare together, Spectrum works to improve access to coordinated care for individuals and families across Arizona.
For Murphy, leading Spectrum is an opportunity to connect her professional experience with her personal commitment to community.
“Healthcare is about the whole person, and building a healthier community takes all of us working together. I’m passionate about making our services stronger, improving how we work, and ensuring our people have the support they need to deliver the best care possible. We should always be asking how we can do better for the people who count on us.”
Turning Challenges into Opportunities
Murphy stepped into the interim CEO role six months before her permanent appointment, during a significant period of organizational change. Working alongside Spectrum’s leadership team, employees, Board of Directors, and community partners, she helped stabilize operations, improve financial performance, rebuild trust, and establish a foundation for sustainable growth.
Her leadership emphasizes that lasting improvement requires more than addressing immediate challenges. It means strengthening the systems behind the work, developing people, and creating a culture where collaboration and accountability go hand in hand.
“Progress happens when people understand where we’re going, feel empowered to contribute, and are willing to work together to solve problems. My job is to help bring that together, make the difficult decisions when needed, and keep us focused on continuously improving how we serve our communities. Financial sustainability and strong operations matter because they allow us to fulfill our mission.”
Spectrum Board President Randy Taylor recognized the progress made under Murphy’s leadership.
“The turnaround Dr. Murphy and her team have orchestrated is nothing short of miraculous,” Taylor said. “The future with her at the helm is looking brighter than ever for those whom Spectrum has the privilege to serve.”
Investing in People, Strengthening Communities
As CEO, Murphy is focused on building on that progress by investing in employees and leaders, strengthening services and operations, and creating opportunities for Spectrum to grow its impact across Arizona.
For Murphy, being named CEO is both a professional milestone and a personal opportunity to serve the community where her story began. She believes that when organizations invest in their people, continually improve, and stay grounded in their mission, the benefits extend well beyond their walls.
“I’m proud of what our team has accomplished, but I’m even more focused on what comes next. There is always an opportunity to learn, improve, and do more for the people we serve. I’m honored to lead Spectrum and bring people together around that work, for our employees, our patients, and the communities we call home.”
