For one local mom, a love for creativity and crafting becomes an empowering business and a way to connect with others

By Danielle Derois

I am Danielle Derois, a stay-at-home mama who owns Old Soul Creatives, a small mobile paint and sip business, hosting monthly classes and private events.

Before having kids, I worked for the Prescott Unified School District and Yavapai County … and now people pay me to paint! It’s so surreal and I feel so lucky! To be able to be a hands-on, present mom and still be able to bring in a source of income to help my family feels so empowering.

I found my purpose through grief; my business started from a source of pain. I had first picked up painting during the pandemic as a fun way to pass the time. I had no formal training, just a love for creativity and crafting. But after my dad passed away unexpectedly from cancer in 2021, painting took on an entirely new meaning. It became my refuge, a way to quiet my mind and express emotions I couldn’t put into words.

From there, my paint and sip business grew naturally, almost like it had a life of its own. This whole experience has become a way to connect with others, share joy, and help people tap into their own creativity.

What started as a simple idea has grown into something much bigger. I now also teach adult and children’s craft classes at the public library, where I’ve had the joy of sharing creativity with the community. I’ve even been able to display my artwork in local art shows (and to my surprise and delight, some of those pieces have sold). I was nominated for and made it to the top the in my category for Prescott Woman magazine’s 2025 Prescott Woman Awards.

More recently, I began teaching private paint classes for homeschool students, and my latest adventure is being selected for a local utility box art competition. It’s such an exciting project where artists get to help beautify the community by transforming utility boxes into colorful works of art.

It’s been an amazing journey, and as a stay-at-home mom, I feel incredibly grateful to be able to do something I love while inspiring others to create, connect, and have fun.

I’m so happy to be a part of this community, and would love to see you at a future event.
