‘Women Take Care of Business’
The Daily Courier has stood the test of time, serving the Prescott-area community for more than 140 years, thanks to a “hyper-local” focus and a steadfast commitment to high-quality journalism.
Even while adhering to traditional news principles, the Courier’s parent company, Western News&Info, Inc. (WNI), has remained on the forefront in the corporate world. At WNI, women hold seven of the eight highest-ranking positions. In the U.S. in 2024, men held most high-level positions, ranging from 63 percent of director positions to 71 percent of C-suite positions (leanin.org).

Planting Seeds of Hope
In the heart of Prescott, something extraordinary is taking root. Rise Above the Clouds, a nonprofit founded and led by those who once navigated the foster care system themselves, is giving foster youth a camp experience designed not just for fun, but for healing.
Unlike traditional programs, the camp blends evidence-based practices with lived experience, guiding every activity through the 4 Cs (proven measurements of a regulated nervous system): Calm, Connection, Confidence, and Curiosity. Rise Above the Clouds staff measure these qualities using both observational and scientific methods (including voluntary cortisol testing) to see how safe, joyful experiences can rewire the brain and help heal trauma.

Barchelle (“Chelly”) Bolger Wathen has always loved dogs, her own as well as shelter dogs. Her world changed forever when Chelly and her husband adopted a very special dog, Shayla, from Ukraine. This remarkable shepherd/wolfdog, abandoned as a puppy, learned to love and trust those who raised her at the Christian orphanage Otchiy Dim (Father’s House), before she came to America.

It Takes a Village
Raising children is tough—especially in today’s world, and especially when parents and caregivers feel alone. The team at Polara Health wants people to know they’re not alone; in fact, a whole cadre of experts and programs exist locally to help create stronger families.
“Children don’t come with manuals, nor does parenting,” said Beni Garcia, child and family counselor and a specialist in trauma-informed parenting at Polara Health.
She added that humans are wired to be part of a community; the adage, “It takes a village to raise a child,” is based in science.

Combine this with exposure to more germs, forgetting to hydrate regularly, and the stress of being on the go, and our immune system may end up a little out of balance.
The good news is, that there are a few simple steps you can take to boost your immunity and improve your chances of staying healthy.

The Future of Homeownership is Female
In a departure from tradition, the long-held notion of women as solely homemakers is being turned on its head as the number of women homebuyers has surged in recent years. Traditionally, the narrative surrounding homebuyers has revolved around married couples or single men, leaving women’s purchasing influence primarily overlooked and undervalued. But today’s data paints a different picture, with single women being surpassed only by married couples as the leading purchasers of homes. In 2024, single females are taking control and realizing their dreams of homeownership.
