One Local’s Story of Business in the Community … ‘the Perfect Place to Live a Real Adventure’

Prescott Woman Magazine chatted with Sheri Shaw, owner of The Back Alley Wine Bar, to find out what makes her enjoy Prescott and everything it offers.

PWM: How long have you lived in Prescott, and why did you choose it as your home?

Sheri: I’ve lived here full-time for 13 years. We used to come up from the valley on weekends, and as a lifelong runner, I loved being able to run year-round on Prescott’s 500 miles of trails.

PWM: What advice would you give young women new to the city or those considering moving here?

Sheri: Embrace the community, the history, and the outdoors. Prescott is the perfect place to live a real adventure.

PWM: What is your occupation, and are there any local events or organizations that have significantly impacted your professional development?

Sheri: I own The Back Alley Wine Bar in downtown Prescott. Being part of the PDP and serving as its former president helped me grow personally and professionally.

PWM: Do you have any kids, significant others, fur babies, or close family members living in the area?

Sheri: I’ve been married for 20 years, and we have Bluebelle, our blue heeler and my favorite running partner.

PWM: What do you love most about living and working in this city, and how has it influenced your journey?

Sheri: I love the downtown vibe and the friendships I’ve built with other business owners. It’s shown me how powerful true community can be.

PWM: How has the local culture or environment influenced your personal or professional growth?

Sheri: Prescott’s Old West spirit and live music scene have shaped my business and passion for music.

PWM: How do you feel Prescott enriches the work you do and your hobbies?

Sheri: The strong sense of community here uplifts both my personal and professional life.

PWM: Is there anything new or exciting you’ll be working on for the upcoming year?

Sheri: More trail running—and more wine tastings at Back Alley Wine Bar, of course!

PWM: Are you involved in the community? If so, what initiatives or projects are you currently involved in that aim to uplift our community?

Sheri: I serve on the Prescott Steering Committee to help enhance experiences for locals and tourists.

PWM: If you had the chance to contribute to something in Prescott, what would it be and why?

Sheri: Someday, I’d love to start a running program for teens after I retire from the wine bar.
