Dr. Kelsie Stevens: Improving Vision and Quality of Life Through Advanced Technology
By Tara Fort
Dr. Kelsie Stevens finds her greatest joy in giving patients clear, comfortable vision. Using the latest technology to assist Premier Eye Center patients with vision challenges, Dr. Stevens works with all levels of patients.
During a recent interview, she said, “I specialize in scleral lenses—contact lenses designed for patients who cannot wear normal soft contact lenses.” These lenses, which do not sit fully on the eye, are shaped like a bowl, which vaults over the cornea. She added, “These lenses can give patients great vision when glasses and standard contact lenses can’t.”
Premier Eye Center Office Manager and Co-Owner Tracy Sullivan said, “Dr. Stevens really cares about her patients and about providing the best care for them. She is a joy to work with because of her great personality, high energy, awesome laugh, and her commitment to our patients and the community. She truly has made a positive impact as she strives for excellence in this profession.”
Dr. Stevens often works with patients who have keratoconus, a progressive weakening of the cornea that distorts vision over time, often not rectified by simply wearing glasses. She also specializes in another contact lens called orthokeratology—a hard contact lens worn overnight to reshape the front of the eye.
“By far, the best way to utilize this product,” she said, “is for kids whose prescriptions change way more than expected from year to year. These contact lenses are actually designed to slow the progression of near-sightedness in children. Some of my youngest patients are nine and 10 years old, and they’ve done amazing.”
Growing up on the East Coast, Dr. Stevens attended college in Washington DC, and later did her optometry training at the Illinois College of Optometry. During that time, she traveled to Arizona, where she decided she would make her home after graduation.
But it was Prescott that stole her heart when she moved here from Scottsdale in 2023. “Prescott was the perfect combination of what I was looking for, both personally and professionally. I realized I could work in an amazing practice and spend my time helping the community. Prescott reminds me so much of my hometown in Connecticut, and now I remember everything I loved about living in a smaller town.”
Outside of the practice, Dr. Stevens enjoys fostering dogs and said, “I rescued all three of my dogs and found fostering to be a great way to get involved and give back to the wonderful rescues who help out these animals.” Often fostering puppies who do well when they are placed with older dogs, Dr. Stevens added, “It is so great watching my dogs show these puppies ‘the ropes.’ They get to have a few friends for a little while so they can teach them how to grow into confident happy dogs!”
