PWM: What inspired you to get involved with The Hike Shack and the outdoor community in Prescott?
Amanda: I got my first job at an outdoor gear shop in high school and stayed in the industry ever since.
Raigan: Getting people outside and seeing the benefits they gain is a way of giving back and helping protect the area we love.
PWM: What makes Prescott such a special place for hiking, camping, backpacking, and climbing?
Owners: Our amazing weather, diverse landscapes, and unbeatable trail system. There’s truly something for everyone here.
PWM: What would you recommend as a must-do hike or activity for someone new to the outdoors or just visiting Prescott?
Owners: Start small with the Goldwater Lake loop trails—you can adjust the distance based on how you’re feeling. The Dells are also great for kids, scrambling over boulders and following trail markers. It’s not about how far you go—just that you get outside!
PWM: What gear or brands do you carry that you’re especially excited about now?
Owners: We’ve added Livsn and Howler Brothers this spring, plus Birkenstocks and Normal Brand shoes are arriving soon.
PWM: How do you help customers find the right gear for their specific adventures?
Owners: Our staff of well-trained outdoor adventurers uses what we sell and asks lots of questions to fit you with the perfect gear for your body and adventure. We take the time to get it right.
PWM: Can you share a memorable customer story or experience that captures what The Hike Shack is about?
Owners: A family told us we sold them a Groove Ring used in a marriage proposal—and now they visit us whenever they’re in town! We love hearing adventure stories from customers and seeing them tag us in outdoor photos online—it’s the best feeling knowing we helped them get there.
PWM: What role does the community play in your store and your mission?
Owners: We are part of the community and support them for supporting us. We’re deeply connected. We recently received a Teen Choice Award from Launch Pad, which was incredibly meaningful. It showed us we’re impacting the next generation, even without realizing it. PWM: Why is it important for people to shop locally, especially regarding outdoor gear and expertise?
Owners: We live, work, and play here. Our team tests gear in Prescott’s environment to make sure it holds up. We tailor our inventory to what actually works here, not just what’s trendy. Plus, we give back by volunteering, supporting local schools and events, and maintaining trails. When you shop local, you support a cycle that strengthens the whole community.
