Every summer, the spirit of the American West comes alive in Prescott as thousands gather for the legendary World’s Oldest Rodeo. In 2026, the tradition takes on even greater meaning as the rodeo celebrates alongside America’s 250th anniversary with the theme, “Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom.”
Hosted by Prescott Frontier Days, Inc., the 139th annual rodeo will take place June 29 through July 5, 2026, bringing together generations of rodeo fans, families, competitors, and visitors for one of Arizona’s most iconic summer traditions.
For many, the World’s Oldest Rodeo is more than a sporting event. It represents the values deeply tied to both the American West and the nation itself — resilience, independence, hard work, and community. This year’s patriotic theme honors the spirit of freedom that has shaped America for two and a half centuries while recognizing the cowboys, cowgirls, ranching families, and communities that continue carrying those traditions forward today.
Held during Prescott’s bustling Fourth of July week, the rodeo remains one of the largest economic and tourism drivers for the region. Visitors travel from across the country to experience world-class rodeo action, Prescott’s historic downtown, and the unmistakable atmosphere that makes Rodeo Week such a special time in Northern Arizona.
This year’s event will feature eight rodeo performances packed with professional competition, entertainment, and family-friendly experiences. Returning favorites include PRCA Hall of Fame announcer Randy Corley, co-announcer James Horcasitas, champion bullfighters Beau Schueth and Quirt Hunt, and crowd-favorite barrelman Justin Rumford. Specialty entertainment from Rider and Bethany Kiesner will also add excitement throughout the week.
Beyond the arena, Rodeo Week includes a full schedule of community events that have become cherished Prescott traditions. Festivities include the annual Rodeo Parade through downtown Prescott, the Kiwanis Kiddie Parade, Whiskey Row Boot Race, Rodeo Dance, Fine Arts & Crafts Show, Cowboy Church, and nightly Mutton Bustin’ competitions for young riders.
Several themed rodeo nights throughout the week will also spotlight important causes and community appreciation efforts, including “Ridin’ for a Cure” night, First Responders Night, and a Military Tribute performance on July 4.
As America prepares to celebrate 250 years, the World’s Oldest Rodeo offers a reminder of how deeply western heritage remains connected to the nation’s identity. The traditions seen in Prescott’s rodeo arena — courage, perseverance, patriotism, and community pride — continue reflecting values that have endured across generations.
For locals and visitors alike, the 2026 rodeo is expected to be more than just an event. It will be a celebration of history, freedom, and the enduring spirit of the American West.
