The Yavapai Youth Choir is hosting its annual Christmas program this year on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. The concert will take place at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 630 Park Ave., in Prescott.

The concert will set the tone for the season with candlelight ambiance. A selection of music from the most traditional and sacred Christmas songs, to secular, to non-standard, are to be performed, said YYC Director Arlene Hardy.

Yavapai Youth Choir (YYC) has three different choirs and all three will be performing at the Christmas show.

The Genesi Voci is made up of children 9 to 11 years old. This choir is making its debut performance, and they bring a new energy to the organization, claims Hardy.

The Prep Choir (Angelo Voci) are striving to join the Touring Choir (Voci Sorella, translates at Sister Voice). Both choirs include singers between 12 and 18 years old.

Musical selections will include a vocalized version of The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy, from the Nutcracker Suite;  Carol of the Bells;  Gaudette (a 16th century sacred Christmas song) and even a Hebrew piece to round out the evening, according to Hardy.

“This show will have a little bit of everything from sacred, to secular, to contemporary,” Hardy said.

The show will include performances by all three choirs and a handful of soloists.

“So many of these girls are amazing singers,” she said.

This winter is also the time to sign up children to participate in the Yavapai Youth Choir for the upcoming spring season.
