Local Author Hopes Her Book Will Inspire Family Time This Holiday Season
By Katie Chatham
Joan Dwyer is one of Prescott’s very own published authors.
She has lived in Northern Arizona for the past 20 years but moved to Prescott three years ago for the milder winters. She is an established author, but her most recent joy is her children’s book, “The Candy Cane Princess.”
In this book, Joan uses the story of an elf from the North Pole named CC who is the Chief Candy Chef. Joan’s hope for this book is that it will educate and entertain. To that end, she included teaching topics for families to discuss together while reading the story.
“I wanted to create a way for parents to spend time and to talk with their kids,” Joan explained.
As a parent—Joan has two adult children who have kids of their own—Joan knows how important family time is. “The Candy Cane Princess” became a way for her to encourage that among other families as well.
There is even a story within the story: the book’s illustrator, Michael Hale, added a mouse who is CC’s friend and sous chef. The idea is to let the readers create a separate story to share with one another. Again, a way for parents and kids to interact and spend quality time together.
As the holidays approach, Joan has teamed up with the Prescott Creamery to feature Candy Cane Princess ice cream. Joan has taken much pride and joy in bringing this story to families.
“Everyone has a story, and in this story, if you love candy canes, you too can be a Candy Cane Princess.”
“The Candy Cane Princess” is for sale on Amazon and at several locations locally including Peregrine Book Company and Prescott Pines Inn. It’s also available to check out at the local library.
