Since 1982, Adult Care Services (ACS), a local nonprofit, has provided essential care to adults living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, and other cognitive or physical challenges.
One of its key programs, the Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center, operates Monday through Friday and provides a variety of services aimed at enriching the lives of participants and fostering a sense of purpose, well-being, and community. These services include daily exercise, meaningful activities, and social interaction. A dedicated team of nurses offers wellness support and ensure the health and safety of each participant. The center boasts a beautiful new garden complete with raised beds, walking paths, a sports area, and a splashing water garden. The center enhances the lives of its attendees and offers much-needed respite to caregivers, allowing them time to rest and recharge from the demands of around-the-clock caregiving.
Families, like that of Sandra, have shared how beneficial the program has been for their loved ones. Sandra has attended the Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center and found joy in participating in activities and interacting with others. Her experience has given her the opportunity to meet new people and engage in fun activities, while her son and caregiver Matthew is able to take care of his daily tasks. As he shared, “It gives me time during the day to get activities done that are too physically challenging for my mom.”
The Margaret T. Morris Center, another program of the ACS, is celebrating 25 years of service. As the only assisted living community in northern Arizona dedicated solely to dementia care, the center offers specialized care in a secure and supportive environment. The Margaret T. Morris Center features a unique neighborhood-style design, a full life enrichment program, and an award-winning one-acre sensory garden, providing a safe and engaging space for residents.
Pam, whose mother Audrey transitioned from the Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center to the Margaret T. Morris Center, shared her family’s story. “Since mom moved into MTM, my role has returned back to that of daughter,” she reflected. The move has given her peace of mind, knowing her mother is receiving the best possible care. “It has allowed me to enjoy quality time with my mom again.”
The Margaret T. Morris Center focuses on person-centered care, empowering residents by addressing their individual needs and abilities. With round-the-clock caregiver assistance, individualized service plans, nutritious meals, and recreational activities such as live entertainment and music therapy, the center provides a full range of services to help residents live meaningful, connected lives.
