The ‘Tis Art Center & Gallery Presents a Celebration of Native American Art
The ‘Tis Art Center & Gallery in Prescott is set to host the highly anticipated annual “Journeys in Spirit 2025: Traditional and Contemporary Native Art” exhibition from May 22 to June 24. The event aims to showcase the rich cultural heritage and artistic expressions of Native American communities. In collaboration with the Museum of Indigenous People, this year’s exhibition promises to be a vibrant celebration of both traditional and contemporary art forms.
A Diverse Collection of Artworks
The “Journeys in Spirit” exhibition features an impressive array of artworks that include paintings, basketry, jewelry, photography, beadwork, ceramics, and more. The collection highlights the extraordinary talent of Native American artists from various tribal backgrounds, such as Hopi, Cherokee, Dine’, Yaqui, Choctaw, Muskogee Creek, Yavapai, and others. The work of each artist offers a unique perspective and cultural narrative. Many artists continue to live within their tribal communities, while others have established lives outside these environments but remain deeply connected to their roots.
Cultural Significance and Educational Opportunities
Art has always played a vital role in Native cultures; it serves as a means of expression, a vehicle for storytelling, and a method for preserving traditions. The exhibition allows attendees to gain insight into these meanings through personal interactions with the artists. Visitors can attend an artist reception during Prescott’s 4th Friday Art Walk on May 23 from 5 to 7 p.m., where they can engage directly with some of the creators behind the works on display.
The “Journeys in Spirit 2025” exhibition at ‘Tis Art Center & Gallery is not just an art show but an immersive experience that fosters understanding and respect for Native cultures while providing economic opportunities for artists. As visitors explore this captivating collection, they will undoubtedly leave with a deeper appreciation for the rich tapestry of stories woven into each piece of art.
