United Way of Yavapai County helps strengthen the community and lift people out of poverty
United Way of Yavapai County (UWYC) is not an ordinary charity … it has been the go-to charity for residents and businesses across Yavapai County since 1987. With your help, UWYC can be the most impactful non-profit organization in our community.
By identifying community challenges, developing a plan to address those needs, and then empowering other non-profit organizations to solve those problems, UWYC helps strengthen the community and lift people out of poverty while also helping local businesses create a culture of giving.
UWYC raises money locally through payroll deduction, provides volunteer opportunities and hosts drives for schools, food banks, shelters, and more. Currently the organization grants funds to more than 30 different charitable programs countywide.
“We need to work together on things we can all agree on, such as ending hunger and homelessness, and focusing on health, financial stability, and education in our communities,” said Meredith Dunlap-Sterrett, new Chairman of the Board for UWYC. “We can accomplish these things if we work together, the United Way.”
“We have such strong, caring communities here, where we help our neighbors. Times have changed, but the idea is the same: together, united in a mission to help each other, we can succeed.”
With nearly 3,000 charities in Yavapai County, how does a person decide who to help, what agency to support?
Beth Mull, UWYC’s Finance and Program Director, said, “We appreciate those who want to support their favorite charity. We can help with that. But, we are here to solve problems; to direct the efforts of dozens of agencies to make a real impact on the issues that matter most. We want to help people lift themselves out of poverty, so they become productive members of our community. With UWYC, you can direct your gift to any non-profit organization in the U.S., or leave the decision to UWYC volunteers to direct your dollars where they are needed most.”
David Seigler, UWYC’s Executive Director explained, “United Way of Yavapai County has been raising funds from the average person; providing an opportunity to give a small amount out of their paycheck, each payday, and the dollars add up quickly. In Yavapai County, we raise more than $500,000 from people contributing a few dollars each month. We distribute those dollars strategically, focused on the most important challenges our community faces.”
UWYC cannot accomplish its goals without you. When we stand united, we win.
