Entrepreneurship Runs In the Family
It took a degree, a couple of careers, and several years for Julie Glaze Gorman to dial in on what she wanted to do. Now, she’s living her dream (which looks nothing like she expected), and she’s sharing it with her daughter, Autumn Sierra, who is enjoying the ride, too.
Julie opened Wild Iris Coffeehouse and Bakery 15 years ago this past November. Just a kid at the time, Autumn grew up washing dishes, taking orders, and managing the store. This past November, on the Wild Iris’s 15th anniversary, Autumn opened her own digs, The Century Lounge, and is now putting her experience to use.

Outdoor Exploration
In addition to its physical health benefits, being active outdoors nurtures mental and emotional well-being. Whether it’s the accomplishment of reaching a summit or the serenity of kayaking across a lake, these experiences help young people build confidence, resilience, and self-esteem. Nature offers a powerful space for reflection, creativity, and connection.
The benefits of staying active, exploring the outdoors, and connecting with nature are well-known. These experiences are not just fun—they’re essential for healthy development. Yet, for many children, outdoor adventures remain out of reach. In our community, too many kids miss out on experiencing the outdoors.
Giving Wheels … and Hope
Since opening April 1, 2023, C and C Cyclery, Carmen and Casey Hines have donated bikes to those in need, particularly those in recovery/Reentry and children. In doing so, they strive to give hope and strength, as well. Carmen’s goal is to raise enough funds to not only support these groups, but to also start a nonprofit organization (501C3) to include the adaptive/disabled community in need of transportation and much needed outdoor time.
Now, Carmen and Casey are partnering with Josh Lederer, owner of Recovery Electric, and Robin DePalma, an owner of the NAZ Wranglers, for the Pay it Forward Bike Drive and Raffle.

More than Beautiful Hair
Prescott Woman Magazine chatted with Ashley Peters, with Love & Co. the Salon, to find out what makes her enjoy being a part of the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce and how it benefits her business.
Take Your Time
At the beginning of the pandemic, when everyone was trying to get their bearings with lockdowns, work and life disruptions, and constantly changing information, a post circulated around social media that went something like this:
A choir is able to sustain a very long note not because everyone holds the note at the same time, but because singers take breaths when they need to, and then join back in.
Our work as parents (and as employees!) is like that too. In the effort not just to keep your family unit running, but also to strengthen it, you may feel like things will fall apart if you take a break or time away. It may even feel irresponsible to take a break when there’s so much at stake.
A Spicy Celebration
The Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village kicks off its festival season with a spicy Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 7, the Saturday closest to the 5.
A north-of-the-border setting couldn’t be any more perfect for the celebration than Tlaquepaque, creatively modeled after the Spanish Colonial artisan villages of Old Mexico. Colorful costumes, piñatas, and hand-cut paper banners vibe with the flowering vines covering the arts village.
Plant Aromatherapy
Arizona is famous for its weather, which facilitates myriad outdoor activities. When all this activity brings the party to your deck, patio, or pool’s edge, the fragrance of the garden should be positive and uplifting to the friends who gather. Forget the candles and citronella. This is the perfect place to add sweetly scented plants for ambiance. The right plants remind us of why the mountains of Arizona are meant to be enjoyed outdoors.
Improving the Community for Generations to Come
It’s a rare and exciting opportunity when we are presented with a chance to improve the community for generations to come. Thirty-five years ago, a small, grassroots group of like-minded Prescott citizens was given that opportunity. Little did they know that future generations would continue to benefit from their concern for children and their vision for the community’s future.
From Propagating Hate to Embracing Love
Andrea Ramey hears with ears that recognize the undertones of Neo-Nazism … because she’s been immersed in that culture.
A self-described “recovering Neo-Nazi,” Andrea said that today she feels such shame for what she did, and is now on a mission to spread a message of love and acceptance.
Staying Connected
For Prescott-area residents, the most important thing after staying safe during the COVID-19 pandemic is staying connected. All online activities—school, work, and play—are up and the reliance on the quality, reliable, fast internet has never been more significant.
