‘You Can Do It, Too.’
Ten years ago, Krystal and her daughter Kaileigh founded Teens’ Closet. They were cleaning out their own closets and wondered how they could get their clothes into the hands of people who really needed them.
A Stress-Free Holiday Season … Is That Possible?
Just imagine: it’s Thanksgiving morning and the kitchen is full with a few too many chefs. Notes of slow-roasting turkey and candied yams are wafting throughout the house, which is alive with kids running around outside, cousins setting the table, and a grandparent or two taking a nap in the corner as if all this happy chaos wasn’t happening right at their feet. You’re the host of this jolly affair, but as you take in the ambiance you realize that in all your planning for the big Thanksgiving feast you’ve forgotten to provide breakfast for your crew. Luckily, someone has thought ahead and pulls out a plate of scones they pre-ordered from Rafter Eleven for this very moment. The scones are warmed in the oven, breakfast is saved, and everyone is content to continue preparing for the main event.

‘They’re my family’
Today’s seniors are those who helped create the United States as we know it today. They worked hard through the Depression and World War II. In the quad-city area, 42 percent of residents are older than 65. Many of them are isolated and homebound and have limited social interaction.
Polara Health’s Senior Peer Program aims to change that.

Pregnant? Get Outside!
Light has a way of shifting perspective. For years, walks have provided me time and space for reframing challenges, enjoying victories, and planning ahead. And I’m not unique: as I write this, a dear friend is asking herself some big questions while she walks the Camino de Santiago in sunny Spain.
Getting outside is essential for physical and mental wellness, especially in pregnancy. Historically, pregnant women were told to take it easy; we know now how essential movement is to a healthy pregnancy and a better postpartum. Most pregnant people can walk safely, and it also gets you outside for fresh air and sunshine.
Sunlight also boosts vitamin D levels: vitamin D is both a vitamin and a hormone, and its synthesis begins when sunlight hits your skin. Vitamin D is necessary for your health throughout your lifetime, but it becomes really important in pregnancy and postpartum.
