What began as a lifestyle magazine has evolved into a dynamic, digital-forward brand rooted in storytelling, connection, and community uplift.
We spotlight the women who lead, create, serve, and inspire — entrepreneurs, artists, educators, advocates, and changemakers whose work shapes the place we call home. Through powerful profiles, thoughtful features, and meaningful conversations, we go beyond the surface to share stories that matter.
Today, our storytelling lives across multiple platforms. Through the She Spark Podcast, we amplify real conversations around leadership, purpose, growth, and connection. Through the Prescott Woman Awards, we honor women whose courage, compassion, and contributions make a lasting difference. And through Portraits with Purpose, we combine storytelling and service, using photography to give back and uplift local nonprofits.

The Alta Vista Garden Club Offers its annual Garden Tour June 21
The tour will feature five gardens, each with a slightly different take on gardening in our mild four-season climate. Whether you are looking for the perfect show of color or need inspiration for your own garden, this tour is for you. Perhaps you will enjoy the serenity of a water feature trickling through a meditation area or the gentle breeze of a kinetic sculpture or a riot of color designed to attract the birds, bees and butterflies. There is something for everyone. In addition to these wonderfully designed gardens, club members and Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions and local artists and musicians will add to the ambience of each garden setting.

‘Create Beauty and Deliver Happiness’
When Rakini Chinery moved to Prescott in 1989, she was seeking a fresh start. Having worked at flower shops in her native Boston, she applied to several local ones and landed a job at Allan’s Flowers.
A decade later when the owner wanted to sell, Rakini saw a way to create a future: she had a vision for what the store could be.
“I felt like it was something I could grow,” she said during a recent interview. Now, 25 years later, it has met her expectations. “We’ve taken it by leaps and bounds.”
The Allan’s staff is as busy as ever with flower arrangements and deliveries for every occasion, but even more importantly, the shop offers an experience.
Relevancy and Innovation Stand at the Forefront
Dr. Barbara Jean Morris became Prescott College’s 18th President during an inauguration celebration on May 6. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, trustees, and members of Barbara’s family attended.
“Today, we celebrate a new era at Prescott College, as we recognize and honor our history and embrace the future with energy and optimism,” said Lynne Nemeth, Chair of the Board of Trustees, before officially installing Barbara as President. “I know that I speak for everyone here—the Board of Trustees, administration, and faculty—when I say that we are all re-committing to student-centered, transparent, and transformative work as we forge a path to our future with our new President, Dr. Barbara Morris.”
Behind the Scenes
Gabrielle Williams is one of those behind-the-scenes people who quietly put the pieces together to (quite literally) run the show. She’s the General Manager of Prescott’s Picture Show movie theater and has been with the company for six years now.

Nurturing Potential
Since 1997, North Star Youth Partnership, a program of Catholic Charities, has engaged youth through educational, recreational, leadership, and service-learning opportunities in Prescott and the surrounding communities. Although the program began as a community coalition aimed at reducing teen pregnancy, it has grown to include a more diverse youth development approach. Rather than solely concentrating on the issues plaguing today’s youth, North Star strives to nurture youth’s potential through programs that build self-confidence, empower them to make healthy choices, and create positive changes in their community.
Under the leadership of Senior Program Manager Diane DeLong since the program inception, North Star has expanded its programming to include Maricopa County. North Star led efforts for Girls & Sports Day in 2002 and Teen Maze in 1999, and both community events continue today. Some of North Star’s most recognizable programs include Teens’ Closet, Peer Assistance & Leadership (PAL), Girl Talk, Safe Sitter, Baby…Ready or Not, and the Priceless Prom Project.
