Director of Yavapai College’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute loves Prescott for its people

Prescott Woman Magazine chatted with Tricia Berlowe, Director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Yavapai College, to find out what makes her enjoy Prescott and everything it has to offer.

PWM: How long have you lived in Prescott?

Trisha: I moved to Prescott in June of 1994, so more than 30 years now.

PWM: Why did you choose Prescott as your home?

Trisha: My husband came to summer camp in Prescott as a child, so he already had an affinity toward this amazing place. I loved Prescott for its four seasons and size, closer to what I was used to growing up in rural New York.

PWM: What’s your occupation?

Trisha: I am a Social Worker by education and a director by trade as I work with retirees who come back to school to learn for the love of learning, while building community in retirement.

PWM: Do you have any kids?

Trisha: I have two children, Alex and Alison, both born at YRMC back when the maternity ward was still in Prescott. And now I have a grandson, Fennec, born out in Prescott Valley!

PWM: What is your favorite thing about living in the Prescott area?

Trisha: The people. We have the best neighbors, friends, and colleagues.

PWM: How do you think Prescott enhances your occupation and hobbies?

Trisha: As a retirement destination, it makes my job a breeze serving seasoned adults at the college! As for hobbies, I love to hike, and Prescott is ideal.

PWM: Are you working on anything new or exciting for the upcoming year?

Trisha: At work we are adding international travel to the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute programming, which I am very excited about. Personally, I am starting to dream about retirement myself, and downsizing our house.

PWM: If you could contribute to anything in the Prescott area, what would it be and why?

Trisha: If I had a magic wand, I would create more affordable housing. Prescott was a wonderful place to raise our children, and I want today’s young families to have the same opportunity.
