Kelsey Secor Promotes Instructional Strategies, Enhancement, and Professional Development Initiatives within the Prescott Unified School District
By Tara Fort
Kelsey Secor is no newcomer to Prescott Unified School District (PUSD). Initially hired in July 2008 as an educator, since 2022, she has embraced her newest evolving role as Director of Instructional Support. This role’s initiative is to support district leaders in keeping up with education trends and the latest research while providing meaningful and relevant professional development opportunities.
She said, “I’ve been a student, teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal, principal, director, and parent — all within PUSD.” District life is not more all-encompassing than that, and Kelsey gives 100 percent in every role.
In a district “full of traditions,” Kelsey said she is “fortunate to work with all of PUSD’s school sites and build relationships with teachers, students, parents, and the broader community.” She added, “The field of education is constantly evolving, and educators have the chance to embrace innovation and adapt to new methodologies.”
PUSD Superintendent Clark Tenney said, “After seven years as a great classroom teacher and instructional coach, Kelsey brought her excellent instructional leadership skills to her next role as a school leader for PUSD. For the past two years, she has done a wonderful job leading PUSD’s instructional coaches, planning and conducting professional development for teachers, and guiding PUSD through the important process of reviewing and adopting a new curriculum. She is a superstar who has a major impact on ‘Every Child, Every Day,’ and directly impacted the quality of instruction in every classroom for almost 4,000 PUSD students.”
Parents to two teenage daughters, the Secors enjoy their extended family nearby and indulge in their love for cooking, reading, concerts, travel, road trips, and camping. “We are always looking for our next adventure!”
Among the accolades the district receives, including its position as one of the top-scoring districts in the state, Kelsey cites the district’s collective passion — and compassion — to go above and beyond. In an unexpected turn of events, Kelsey’s husband underwent emergency heart surgery in December 2021, and she is quick to credit “the right people who were working on that day who saved his life. Since then, health and caring for our family have been my adjusted focus over the last two years. PUSD has been incredibly supportive of me and my entire family. It is truly a ‘family first’ organization, and I could not have made it through the last two years without their support and understanding.”
