Live Entertainment and Hand-Crafted Gifts Offer the Perfect Opportunity to Give FUN This Holiday Season

By Tina Blake, Development Director, Prescott Center for the Arts

Officially known as Arizona’s Christmas City, Prescott is one of the “Top 25 Best Small Towns for Christmas,” according to Country Living Magazine (2017 and 2018).

The holidays are all about traditions, about making memories with your loved ones, and Prescott is the perfect place to create them. Prescott Center for the Arts (PCA) asks you to consider new traditions: the gift of live theatre (at PCA’s Mainstage), and buying hand-crafted gifts from its Art Gallery.

The Gift of a Beloved Disney Favorite—Locally

PCA is proud to present FROZEN JR. this December 5-15. Disney’s Frozen 2 film debuts in November, but there will be nothing like seeing the original live in Prescott. Based on the 2018 Broadway musical, FROZEN JR. is a story of true love between sisters Princess Anna and Queen Elsa of Arendelle. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood. Brought to life by a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure, and plenty of humor, FROZEN JR. is sure to thaw even the coldest heart!

The original Disney film, Frozen, earned more than $1.2 billion at the box office and is not only the first “princess” movie to make the list of top 10 grossing animated films, but also the number-two animated film of all time.

This fun musical is being directed by Gina Steverson, a lifetime student of music with training in piano and voice, and professional experience with the clarinet. She helps direct summer youth programs and most recently was the musical director for PCA’s production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Aside from the great music and dynamic characters, there are ten important life lessons attendees can glean from FROZEN JR.

These lessons are great reminders not only for children but also for adults during the stressful holiday and upcoming new year:

  1. Family is important.
  2. Be unapologetically you.
  3. Stop bottling your emotions.
  4. No one is an island.
  5. Don’t believe things that are too good to be true.
  6. Dream big.
  7. Love can change the world.
  8. It is okay to ask your friends for help.
  9. Trust is earned and reciprocated in relationships.
  10. Life challenges can be opportunities to grow.

Art as the Perfect Gift

PCA is hosting its annual Holiday Market from November 3-December 18 to help Prescottonians and tourists find the perfect gifts for the special people in their lives.

Longtime local artist and volunteer for the Visual Arts Committee at PCA, Arlene Minuskin, shared why she believes people will enjoy shopping at the Gallery:

“The Gallery is transformed into a festive holiday setting with hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind art and gifts for all ages. Participating artists work year-round to create only the best in unique, handmade gifts including glass, jewelry, clothing, books, wood items, ceramics, furniture, 3-D work in a variety of materials, stuffed toys, photography, contemporary art, traditional wall art, and much more,” she said. “An original quality piece of art in any medium is a gift that can be appreciated and cherished, and the Gallery and Gift Shop continue to consistently attract experienced and emerging artists.”

There are more than 50 artists participating in this year’s Holiday Market.
