Local boutique owner’s mission goes beyond simply selling clothes
Prescott Woman Magazine interviewed Terri Harrington, owner of SMARTgirls Resale Fashion and member of the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce. We learned about how much she values giving back to the community.
PWM: For how long have you been a member of the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce?
Terri: I’ve been a member for four years.
PWM: Tell us about what brought you to Prescott.
Terri: My family and I moved here 15 years ago for two reasons: weather and God. We feel God moved us here to grow spiritually, and that is exactly what happened. Our four children have now lived here longer than they lived in our previous home in Minnesota. They are all grown and still live in Arizona. We are members of the Heights church and attend the new Heights church, Park Collective, in Prescott Valley, and volunteer there on occasion.
I took over SMARTgirls Resale Fashion from a very special friend of mine in February 2019. This, too, was totally a God thing. I took Fashion Merchandising classes in college many years ago and never really used it, but now I am. Being the owner of a Prescott Valley business has grown me as a person and a woman. I love being part of something that helps women feel special and beautiful.
PWM: What about the Prescott Valley Chamber is different from other organizations in the area, and what do you personally enjoy best about being part of it?
Terri: I have found the Prescott Valley Chamber to be like family. They help make this community feel small no matter how fast it grows. Marnie [Uhl, Chamber President/CEO] is like a jewel in the crown of this community. She is so sweet … all the ladies at the chamber are so sweet.
PWM: Do you serve in any additional roles within the Chamber?
Terri: I haven’t served in any additional roles at the chamber, except that I was on the committee to choose the winners of the scholarships, and that was so fun, to be part of changing someone’s life. My husband and I try to make it to the Alive@5 mixers as often as possible.
PWM: Do you have family here? Children? Other activities in which you participate?
Terri: As I mentioned above, my kids are all grown and still live in Arizona. Most days, you’ll find me at the boutique working alongside my employees or doing paperwork or other business tasks. I also enjoy sitting outside with a cold drink, enjoying the sound of the birds and the amazing view from our home, and enjoying time in fellowship with our church group or sweet friends.
PWM: How are you involved in the community?
Terri: I love serving the world through my boutique by giving back to the community and donating to local charities.
PWM: What else do you want to add that people might not know about you or what you do or offer?
Terri: I sell clothes for a living, but SMARTgirls and my mission are so much more than that: I enjoy loving on the amazing ladies who come in. I want to make them feel like we opened the doors just for them. When they need a friend, a hug, an ear, or reassurance they are beautiful and special, we are there.
