Phippen Museum’s Western Art Show & Sale Slated for Memorial Day Weekend (May 25–27)

On Memorial Day weekend, the Phippen Museum will proudly celebrate 50 years of showcasing the outstanding fine art of the American West at its annual outdoor Western Art Show and Sale on Prescott’s Courthouse Plaza.

Inspired by the legacy and inspirational character of the first president of the Cowboy Artists of America, George Phippen, this event is designed to elevate Western art, encourage emerging Western artists looking for gallery representation, and entice art buyers and serious fine art collectors. It is also a venue that creates a special camaraderie and solidarity between participants and a unique opportunity to be recognized as serious western, wildlife, and landscape artists.

In addition to the more than 90 talented artists displaying fine art on the Courthouse Plaza, this year’s special events include:

Miniature Masterpiece Show & SaleThis unique sale-by-draw event features more than 60 of the biggest names in the world of Western art. Beginning on Wednesday, May 1, the artwork will be displayed at the museum and online at www.phippenartmuseum.org. A unique mini masterpiece preview and catered reception will be held on Friday, May 3 at 5:30 p.m., featuring a fantastic collection of miniature pieces, reasonably priced and created by an outstanding group of talented Western artists. The Sale by Draw is scheduled for Monday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at the Phippen.

Quick Draw Challenges & Live Art Auctions

Presented in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd, this popular demonstration takes place on Saturday and Sunday, May 25 and 26, at 2 p.m. on the north steps of the courthouse. Participants create a finished piece of artwork in only 60 minutes, and then a Live Art Auction is held in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd while the paint’s still wet.

Two-Lane Tales from the 66 Kids

Bob Boze Bell and True West magazine will present this exclusive free history revue at the historic Elks Theatre on Saturday, May 25, between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., with special guest speakers and musical performances.

Hometown Hoedown & Silent Auction

On Saturday, May 25, at 5:30 p.m., an exciting evening of Western fun will occur at the Sam Hill Warehouse. Attendees will enjoy cocktails, live entertainment, a silent auction, a delicious ranch-style dinner, and enlightening presentations by some exceptional guests. ($80 for members and $90 for guests.)

Artist Award Ceremony

On Sunday, May 30, at 11 a.m. on the courthouse steps, this presentation is offered to recognize and celebrate the tremendous skill and effort of the show’s outstanding fine artists.

Courthouse booth hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday. In addition, admission to this event and the museum are free during Memorial Day weekend.
