It took a degree, a couple of careers, and several years for Julie Glaze Gorman to dial in on what she wanted to do. Now, she’s living her dream (which looks nothing like she expected), and she’s sharing it with her daughter, Autumn Sierra, who is enjoying the ride, too.
Julie opened Wild Iris Coffeehouse and Bakery 15 years ago this past November. Just a kid at the time, Autumn grew up washing dishes, taking orders, and managing the store. This past November, on the Wild Iris’s 15th anniversary, Autumn opened her own digs, The Century Lounge, and is now putting her experience to use.
Glorious Bursts of Color and Lush Green Abundance
Wendy and her husband Greg started offering weddings and other events on their 30-acre property four years ago (their son Grant and his bride Sofia were the first to get married there).
Hosting events at Lynx Creek Farm is a family affair. Wendy and Greg live on the property, and their daughter Raphael is the day-of coordinator.
Between events, the trio works to constantly beautify the property, adding color and depth to its wide-open views.
A Life Changing Respite
The Prescott Area Shelter Services (PASS) mission statement is simple: To serve women, women with children, and veterans by providing temporary housing, resources, individualized case management, and a pathway to permanent housing.
For the women, PASS serves, though, the benefits are complex and life-changing.
Caring for All of You
Every team member is committed to caring for the whole person—body, mind and spirit.
Hard Work, Grit … and Fulfillment
Even while Nyla D’ Salon had its best year ever in 2021, and is on track for another record year in 2022, owner Jenny Bacon is working as hard as ever. And it’s worth it.
This October, Nyla D’ will celebrate 15 years in business. Those 15 years have been a journey filled with lessons and “the pure joy of knowing what it’s like to work so hard to earn something and then make a success out of it.”
Jenny’s is a story of determination, hard work, and ultimately, the fulfillment of seeing those pay off.
What Are You Waiting For?
Canyon exploration, she said, “just slows things down to the simplicity of what your basic needs are. Day three is when people just kind of melt into the Grand Canyon … the connection is so different for every single person. You reconnect to yourself.”
‘It’s a Legacy’
Harold, who passed away in February, married Lorna in 1955 in Wellington, Ohio. They moved to Prescott and opened Watters Garden Center on Miller Valley Road.
By 1965, it quickly outgrew its original Miller Valley Road location, and the Watterses moved it to a spot on Plaza Drive. In 1983, it moved again, to its current location on Iron Springs Road.
‘You Can Do It, Too.’
Ten years ago, Krystal and her daughter Kaileigh founded Teens’ Closet. They were cleaning out their own closets and wondered how they could get their clothes into the hands of people who really needed them.
It’s Always October at the Breast Care Center
This October, we’re recognizing National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by exploring the Breast Care Center at YRMC. We’ll highlight how the team collaborates to care for women – and sometimes men – and feature the Center’s exceptional breast health services. Along the way, we’ll give you information to help you make good decisions about your breast health.
‘A Place to Belong’
Through regular gatherings, Prescott Unified School District’s Indian Education Program gives students with indigenous heritage an opportunity to celebrate their individuality and their inter-tribal connections
Get Outside (Your Comfort Zone) and Play!
Adventuring is good for the soul. Stepping out of your comfort zone and into what Amanda Lane, co-owner of The Hike Shack, calls your “learning zone,” can help you “figure out what you’re actually capable of.” And, it can “brighten your day and give you this boost of encouragement and satisfaction.”
