Telling the stories that shape our community.
Building on a Legacy
Haley Construction has come a long way in the nearly 70 years since Jim and Frances Haley launched it in Globe with nothing more than a borrowed $1,000 and an old Ford truck. Today, their granddaughter Gillian Haley strives to secure the company’s reputation as a local firm that can handle all types of projects, from custom homes to even the biggest commercial buildings.
Hayley Heckethorn of Primrose Board Co.:
or native Prescottonian Hayley Heckethorn, leaving her full-time job during the pandemic proved to be a life-changing choice in a new niche-driven profession.
The founder of Primrose Board Co., Hayley—a 2020 healthcare industry graduate with a minor in Business Management from Grand Canyon University—said, “I initially started to explore careers in the wedding industry, and that’s when I discovered charcuterie boards.”
She recalled, “I brought one of my boards to a family dinner and my sister said, ‘You should do this as a business!’ I didn’t think it was much of a ‘thing’ at that time.”
Ring in 2026!
The Whiskey Row Boot Drop is back and bigger than ever, celebrating its 15th year as Northern Arizona’s most iconic New Year’s Eve event. On Wednesday, December 31, thousands will gather in historic downtown Prescott to welcome the New Year with the drop of a dazzling six-foot illuminated cowboy boot from the Palace Building’s 40-foot flagpole.
Adventure!
As a staple in our community, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central AZ continue to provide adventures every day after school. They have removed day care from their vocabulary and focus on how kids in Prescott and Prescott Valley can make the most of their after-school time.
With the launch of the Clubs’ adventure programming, staff members have seen a rise in confidence and self-determination among the youth they serve. Adventure-based programs help kids gain the self-esteem needed to succeed in academics and extra-curricular activities. The Clubs are always here to serve as a safe space for all kids to attend, and they feel it’s their duty to not sit idly as they take care of the youth of today.

Compassionate Care with a Personal Touch
For Dr. Emily Roth, caring for animals goes beyond treating symptoms—it’s about supporting an animal’s health, comfort, and quality of life through a thoughtful, whole-body approach. As the sole practitioner of a woman-owned and -founded veterinary practice in the Prescott area, she is redefining what personalized pet care looks like.
Stay Curious
Human beings make assumptions. That’s just how our brains work.
We take stock of what we’ve experienced and use that to make predictions about what will happen.
Assumptions are useful tools. If we have a gap in information, we’ll fill it with an assumption. We can even make up whole stories with one small piece of information, like a comment or a facial expression. Assumptions help us make quick choices in our fast-paced world.
The problem with assumptions, of course, is that they can be wrong, or partially wrong. And whether they’re wrong or right, assumptions shape how we choose to act towards others.
Choices based on false assumptions can be destructive.
Farming Roots
Mortimers have taken farming far beyond what their ancestors could have imagined. Mortimer Farms welcomes thousands of visitors each year to pick their own food, participate in a huge variety of activities and games, and enjoy seasonal festivals including the wildly popular Pumpkin Fest and Corn Maze each fall.
Helicopter Plant Parents
There are no silly questions when it comes to gardening. We are on this journey together; some have more experience than the rookies just starting out. That’s why two decades of garden articles, radio programs, and podcasts exist. Gardening is learned by making mistakes. I want to ensure you make mistakes in the right direction, never going backward.
Let’s start with the obvious. If something is alive in your home, it will need water. Houseplants most likely need a deep soak every 10 to 14 days. Succulents, cacti, and plants in dark rooms need water less often, probably every 2 to 3 weeks. Dogs and cats should not eat your houseplants; it’s not good for them.
Over and over again, I see these common mistakes. Eliminate even one, and you become a better plant parent and gardener.
A Healthy Voyage
Whether you’re off on a girls’ trip or family vacation, traveling for work, or celebrating a wedding, a trip can be both exciting and stressful. But what if you could sail through long flights, late-night celebrations, and busy schedules on your way to making the memories of a lifetime?
Stress halts your immune system. While some travel stress is inevitable, nourishing your immune system while traveling ensures you get to make the memories you left home for.
These five quick immune-boosting tips will help you stay energized, healthy, and glowing—so you don’t miss a single moment.
