The new year has just begun, and much like you, we are ready to pack a bag and hop on the nearest flight to practically anywhere. As a local shop that curates our natural olive oils and balsamic vinegars from around the world, we thought we would take another trip through taste with you, just in case you’re not quite ready to book that ticket.
Into the Woods
“Into the Woods,” a musical by Stephen Sondheim, intertwines the plots of several fairy tales, exploring themes of desire, consequence, and the complexities of human relationships. The narrative follows characters such as Cinderella, Jack (of Jack and the Beanstalk), Little Red Riding Hood, and a Baker and his Wife as they venture into the woods to fulfill their wishes. However, as their stories unfold, they encounter challenges that reveal deeper truths about life and morality.
Footlight Productions is set to present this captivating musical May 9, 10, 16, and 17, 2025 at the Hazeltine Theater in downtown Prescott. This production promises to bring Sondheim’s intricate score and poignant storytelling to life through talented local performers.
‘We Want Everyone to Be Seen and Heard’
The Sweeney family is on a mission: to spread the word that although everyone communicates differently, we’re all the same in so many ways.
Two of the four Sweeney siblings, Ben, 18, and Keagan, 22, communicate in unique ways, thanks to autism. As they were growing up, people often stared at Ben and Keagan, and some even made rude comments.

Expanding Its Mission
Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters (YBBBS) creates and professionally supports one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the promise in our local youth.
Arlene and Kloe’s match demonstrates the mission well. Matched for more than five years and still going strong, the pair celebrated Kloe’s high school graduation in May 2022, along with nine other graduating Little Brothers and Sisters from the agency.
Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival features in-person and virtual tours this year
Pandemic restrictions took hold in Arizona last year shortly before the annual Verde Valley Birding & Nature Festival occurred, so the Friends of the Verde River really had to scramble to offer even just a few virtual events.
This year’s festival on April 22-25 is still limited by the pandemic, but organizers have had plenty of time to expand the virtual offerings while also reviving some limited in-person birding excursions, including a new tour at the Alcantara Vineyards in Camp Verde.
Brilliant Color
Many mountain trees offer spectacular autumn colors, but glowing fall leaves light up only one of our four seasons. The best landscape trees shine in every growing season. Maples provide some of the best fall colors. Several are outstanding shade trees through summer, others a great source of sap for syrup, and the smallest flame maples have exceptional drought tolerance in a desert landscape. Tiny trees for tiny yards don’t take up much space. Most offer stellar autumn foliage, and their fragrant spring flowers are an added bonus.
Stronger and Wiser

The way the light shines across the landscape to illuminate hills and valleys, vibrant flowers crowning reception tables, the smiles and bright eyes of the people you love.
How you look and feel in your dress (take lots of photos!).
With each step you take toward your partner, feeling both nervous and sure.
Your first kiss as a married couple.
The food and drinks, are lovingly offered to guests gathering to celebrate you.
And how the lights sparkle as the sun sets, twinkling against a purple sky while you dance, deeply in love.
Strength = Beauty
At 26 years old, fitness is one of the greatest joys in my life.
The old me would never recognize the current me. I once looked in the mirror and did not know the woman staring back at me. I had an eating disorder and was in a physically and mentally abusive relationship. Then I had my daughter.
It’s Raining, It’s Pouring, You’re Painting …
At this time of year, we get plenty of customers who are concerned about painting their home’s exterior. While this—monsoon season—is generally a wetter time of the year, on most days, the rain is usually not a big concern.
