Since opening in September 2019, LazyG Brewhouse continues to check all the boxes as a “Prescott go-to” for locals and newcomers alike. From the outdoor pet-friendly patio park with entertainment stage, to subtle nods to family and brewery location history scattered throughout the venue, owners Jean-Marie Bellington and her husband Jim have redefined the brewing industry in Prescott and continue to pave the way to increase the level of awareness of the brewing profession.

In recent years, women have made their way to industry forefront through ownership and award-winning craft beer mastery, and LazyG does its part to support that forward movement in their business.

“Two of our three daughters work here full time,” Jean-Marie said, “and Lorah Smith, who is married to our award-winning brewer, has brought a wealth of history from running the brewery she and her husband owned in San Diego. Her involvement has been instrumental.”

Jean-Marie also leans on her affiliation with the Pink Boots Society, an international organization that encourages advancement of careers in the fermented and alcoholic beverage industry. As co-chair of the Arizona chapter, Jean-Marie credits the organization for serving as a portal that has provided opportunity and exposure for more women in the industry.

“Through Pink Boots business awareness and scholarships, we have been able to open up the playing field and embrace women locally and statewide who are part of breweries, meaderies, and distilleries to teach them about brewing so they have a better understanding of the business and the science side of it.”

She added that LazyG supports Pink Boots Day, often coinciding with International Women’s Day, when the group invites women to be a part of the brewing process. Though the beer-style varies from year to year, the brew created at the LazyG is always called Pink Flamingo as a nod to the trailer park previously housed on the location where the brewery now stands.

With the continual growth of the craft beverage industry, Jean-Marie said the best thing about owning a brewery in Prescott has been the community: “All our regulars feel like this is ‘their’ place and we thrive on that support for creating new styles of beer and dining options.”

With no limits on the horizon, LazyG aims to refresh the Prescott community through continuous rotations of newly crafted beers that give shout-outs to local landmarks and the canned ham trailer park theme permeated throughout, such as Dirty Gertie (named after the outside tap-service trailer on the patio), GABF 2020 Silver medal award-winning beer Pedal Pounder (named for the Whiskey Off-Road bike race), and Sunshine Blonde (named in honor of one of the couple’s granddaughters), which won Best Blonde in the 2022 World Beer Cup in a field of 12,000 beers. Cheers!
