A Sweeping Score, a Powerful Story, and Important Life Lessons Make this Classic a Must-See for the Whole Family
From May 30 to June 16 this year, Prescott Center for the Arts wraps up the season with the musical, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, directed by Don Langford. The production—a must for the whole family—is based on the 1831 novel of the same name written by Victor Hugo. It features songs from the Academy-Award-nominated score of the 1996 Walt Disney Animation Studios film adaptation, as well as new songs.
The sweeping score and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame an instant classic. While audiences will be swept away by the magic of this truly unforgettable musical, they’ll also be reminded of important life lessons.
Watching live theater is not just pure entertainment. In many cases, it allows for critical thought and introspection. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a great example of this.
Here are 20 life lessons this masterpiece showcases:
- Life isn’t a spectator sport. Don’t let it pass you by—participate!
- Don’t judge people based on their physical appearance.
- Doing the right thing sometimes means opposing people in authority or higher than you on the totem pole.
- Sometimes you have to help people, even when you don’t really want to.
- Your point of view determines who’s the monster and who’s the man within.
- Hypocrites and those who do wrong will pay the price in the end.
- There is always someone who has it worse than you.
- Nothing is ever completely hopeless. Be hopeful.
- It only takes one person to lead the way and start a trend. Standing up against immoralities can be infectious.
- Be careful which festivals and parties you choose to attend.
- Be the encouragement in other people’s lives. Support them on their journeys.
- Be happy for others even if you didn’t get what you wanted. Holding a grudge won’t change anything.
- Learn about other people’s cultures.
- Take an interest in other people’s interests or their art. You might learn something new and learning is growth.
- Keep things light even if you’re a stone. You don’t always have to be serious.
- Be aware of your surroundings. Not everyone has best intentions toward you.
- Surround yourself with friends who keep your life interesting and fun.
- Don’t burn down cities. Setting things on fire doesn’t solve anything.
- The most unlikely hero can be found in each of us.
- Everyone needs friends.
Prescott Center for the Arts and an amazing cast and crew of more than 35 people are excited to bring this musical to the community and share its insightful life values.
One cast member, April Manchester-Miller, explained what The Hunchback of Notre Dame means to her: “It’s always been my belief that the real main character of this play is the Cathedral de Notre Dame itself, with the amazing choir as an additional entity within this breathing sanctuary of stone and steel. As the story plays out, we get to experience the timeless themes of discrimination versus acceptance, social status, oppression et cetera, which unfortunately are still raging in all societies. However, the playwrights take us to a place high above all of that where love can be pure and friendship can be honest and for a little while we get to feel like the world might not be so bad.”
Development Director, Tina Boden-Blake said, ”This will be a show like no other with amazing scenes, acting, singing and dancing; a truly great musical that will get your summer off to the perfect start.”
Don’t miss outstanding musical as tickets will sell out quickly.
