After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the staff of Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters (YBBBS) is excited to announce that Prescott’s premier event for the youth-serving organization is returning Saturday, November 12.

“The Annual Grand Gala is back! This event has been a staple in the community for several decades and as we honor our 50-year history and pay homage to our seventies roots, we hope you’ll come celebrate with us,” said Marlo Dykeman, YBBBS Donor Relations Director.

Following the “Call of the Disco Ball,” guests can share in the Saturday-Night-Fever-themed vibes, complete with music by Funk Frequency, a gourmet menu of ’70s food, and disco balls galore, as well as a dance floor, light-up bar, and much more.

For a town its size, Prescott can rightfully boast of an amazing array of musical talent regularly displayed by a number of long-established performing groups.  Whether one’s preferences run to classical or popular, choral or instrumental, religious or secular, the “scene” in Prescott has something for everyone. With the welcome relief from the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, our local ensembles are once again planning full seasons.

Suze’s Prescott Center for the Arts (SPCA) is both a historical landmark and an all-encompassing center for the arts in downtown Prescott. The 126-year-old former Sacred Heart Catholic Church, which was gifted to the Center in 1969, houses SPCA, and the facilities have served the communities for 51 years.

The center has embarked on a new era of artistic adventures with the building of a new studio theater. Since SPCA is a community theater, the organization is relying on the support of donors and community members to help keep the arts thriving locally.

Prescott Woman magazine spoke with Jaye Lene Long, Executive Director, Co-Founder, and organizer of HOPE FEST Arizona, which is planned for 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, September 10 at the Courthouse Plaza. Admission is free.

It’s that time again! Dancing for the Stars is the Boys & Girls Clubs’ signature event and major fundraiser of the year and will take place September 9 (Opening Event) and 10 (Main Event/VIP Reception).

The event has grown to raise a significant portion of the organization’s annual budget, strengthening the Clubs’ operation. Dancing for the Stars consists of an exciting friendly competition in which local celebrities are paired with professional dancers to perform a wide variety of dances, in a fun and dazzling event. All proceeds stay local and directly benefit our community youth.

Our local Boys & Girls Clubs are steadfast in promoting greatness in youth and their families through inspirational leadership and transformational programs. Clubs’ after-school and summer programs focus on academic success, healthy lifestyles and good character and citizenship. Serving young people with tools and opportunities to help them develop and thrive, the Boys & Girls Clubs also serve the whole family by empowering parents to work outside the home and provide for their household.

Arizona Philharmonic (AZ Phil) announced the seven-concert 2022-2023 season at an event in May, and were delighted when two of the guests, Ron and Laura James, surprised the gathering with the announcement of their sponsorship of A Nutcracker Christmas Celebration, a first-time collaboration with the Margot Fonteyn Academy of Ballet (MFAB) Alumni.

“Journeys in Spirit” is an annual exhibition to give Native artists the opportunity to show and sell their work within the fine art gallery setting of the ‘Tis Art Center and Gallery.

A nervous twitter ran through the sold-out crowd at the Western Heritage Center on Whiskey Row as the reenactor put her hand on her gun belt, held out an enameled pot, and sauntered forward. Playing the role of the notorious stagecoach robber, Brenda Kruegar, also known as “Wildcat Pearl Hart,” during the “5 Amazing Prescott Pioneer Women” event, she proceeded to politely request, “yer jewels, your coins, yer watches,” and folks in the audience (who were in on the stunt) dropped large, clanking, fake coins noisily into the pot.
