The Prescott Area Association of REALTORS® (PAAR) maintains its legacy of dynamic leadership with Jeanelle Shearer and Kayla Stazenski, who are set to assume the association’s top two positions in 2024. Janelle will serve as President and Kayla as President-Elect.
While these two prepare to lead the trade organization alongside CEO Suzanne Westrum, their paths have paralleled several times already. Both have deep local roots. Janelle has called Chino Valley home for 28 years while Kayla is a sixth-generation Prescottonian. Also, family influence led both to real estate, with Janelle following her mother’s footsteps 28 years ago and Kayla a REALTOR® for 20 years, inspired by her family.

Home Sweet Home
Earlier this year, I had the privilege of working alongside realtors from the Prescott Area Association of REALTORS® (PAAR) and their affiliate members at the Chino Valley Safeway to raise food and monetary donations for people in need in our community. It was overwhelming to see the enthusiasm and care our members put into their efforts, despite the heat and long hours on their feet. In the end, they raised $1,800 in cash and checks as well as hundreds of pounds of groceries, all in a single day, to benefit the Chino Valley Food Bank.
Helping Prescott to Flourish
heri Heiney, President and CEO of the Prescott Chamber of Commerce, has been in the business for almost three decades. This is the third chamber she’s worked for, and she said during a recent interview that her current team is “the best team ever.”
Coincidentally, most of her team members are women. The exception: Visitor Information Manager Robert Coombs, who’s been with the Prescott Chamber for 20 years and said of the team, “We absolutely love working together. We’re very caring and customer-service friendly inside and out.”
Women on the Front Lines
Although statistics vary, they consistently show that women make up just a small percentage of first responders in the United States. This holds true locally. Prescott Woman magazine reached out to local police and firefighters to learn more about their first responder experiences. While each woman shared a unique story, they all have in common the desire to help their community members and a sense of fulfillment that comes from doing so. None of them shies away from a challenge, and many of them said the day-to-day variety of their job keeps things fresh.
